In her opening speech, Deputy Head of Mission Gita Kamath confirmed the commitment of Australian Government. “Australia is strongly committed to advancing gender equality and protecting the rights of women and girls, both in Australia and internationally. This commitment is also a key part of the development partnership between Australia and Indonesia, with the principles of gender equality, disability, and social inclusion integrated into all our cooperation programs.”

The Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas in his opening speech highlighted the importance of capacity building for all involved. “The training will integrate the new criminal code (KUHP) and criminal procedure code (KUHAP) with three related categories of crime: sexual violence, offenses against migrant workers, and human trafficking.  “These issues are serious crimes that harm human dignity and require professional, victim-centered law enforcement supported by cross-sector coordination,” he said. Minister Agtas also praised the strategic partnership with the Australian Government to address these issues through capacity building program.

The joint training series and technical assistance position victims and survivors as the focal point of the judicial process. AIPJ3 will support this collaboration to ensure better protection for victims and survivors by improving stakeholder synergy in the implementation of the new codes (KUHP and KUHAP) until end of 2027.
